sorry just to add, a molar perception that could divide without changing its
nature would also have no relation with memory, it would be absolute?

hi beth,
you and i are using dualism differently but do not basically disagree on
most of this. i suspect where i say dualism you say bi-univocity. neither
have i suggested a transcendental/immanent opposition or an analogous
relation between quantum and macro-physics. ( i don't intend bi-univocity
here nor do i hold any kind of matter form distinction) as you say both
plan(e) are immanent but their discontinous differences in kind and degree
is what allows the potential of any kind of continous variation in
extensiion
. i don't agree when you say that molar perceptions can divide without
changing in nature, rather i would suggest that they divide in the desire
not to change their nature which must fail. the desire for the same does
minimise the creative potentials of division and segment its multiplicities
in this way. e.g the dialectical interval if molarities actually could
divide without changing their nature, though, this would be a perfect Same
independent of difference.( Plato would be delighted)

Hi Dan, Ruth, and Fili,
Rather than trying to unravel just where we agree or disagree, I will try
to describe my current and tentative understanding/misunderstanding? .
The plane of organization and development, the plane of transcendence, is
in extension. It renders perceptible, but can't be perceived. On this
plane are the relative thresholds of perception, between which movement can
not be perceived. The movement takes place above the maximum threshold and
below the minimum so that movement never shows up on this plane. Here,
there is always dualism between difference of degree (variation of matter)
and difference in kind (development of form), because form/matter is
homogenized. On this plane quantity is cardinal and quality is in
extension, because both are molar mixtures of difference in kind and
difference in degree. The perceptions on this plane can divide without
changing in nature. Traditionally, thought has usually restricted itself
to this plane where qualitative perceptions, or affects, are merely "badly
analyzed composites". There is nothing "wrong" with this plane unless we
leave out the other plane.
The other is the plane of immanence or consistency. On this plane the
principle of composition "must" be perceived. This is the plane of
intensive difference (of material forces or molecularized matter) within
the field of Deleuze's Transcendental Empiricism. This is the plane of the
intensive process of the three syntheses as a choice of finitude. 1st
Synthesis: The connective synthesis from which is produced relations of
ordination and axes of reference. 2nd Synthesis: The disjunctive synthesis
where there is inscription of memory of being. Here, we can see that the
series of the plane of organization is really a homogenization of at least
two heterogeneous series. At this level Aion nomadically distributes
partial objects into inclusive disjunctions on the BwO where everything
divides, but into itself. This is where the movement which could not be
perceived on the other plane continues. That movement which always takes
place above the maximum and below the minimum thresholds on the other
plane, now shows up here as singular event. 3rd Synthesis: The conjunctive
synthesis is the union of the 1st synthesis (depths) and the 2nd synthesis
(intensive distances). Now, intensity resonates to infinity by coupling
elements of different orders in *disparity*. Disparity is the reason of
the sensible. The condition of phenomena is not space and time, but
disparateness; and qualitative content reveals itself in the disparity of
intensive quantity. Intensity is thereby developed within an extensity and
is covered by qualitities--- extensio (in the form of schema) which relates
it to extensity (extensive magnitude), qualitas (physical qualities) and
quale (perceptible qualities). Individuating factors occur in this
developed extensity, and they determine individual perspectives of
perception on the extensive plane. Intensive difference is explicated in
extensive systems on the plane of organization where it is cancelled.
There is always eternal return in the process so that structure never
becomes rigid. In this ongoing process there is interaction between the
plane of consistency which always keeps structuration somewhat open with
transverse connections, included disjunctions, and polyvocal conjunctions;
and the plane of extension where the connections become global, the
disjunctions become exclusive, and the conjunctions become biunivocal.
"Consistency is neither totalizing nor structuring; rather, it is
deterritorializing: ATP p. 144.
In regard to the question of dualism: It seems to me that since both
planes are in immanence, there can be no dualism. Just as the sub-atomic
energy/particles of elementary physics are not in any dualistic relation to
macro-physics, so there is no dualistic opposition between D&G's two
planes. In fact, they overcome the dualisms of the form/matter plane.
