Could anyone elucidate me on the question of 'extra-being' which I think =
is discussed in Logique de sens and Theatrum philosophicum? I am asking =
on behalf of someone else, hence my somewhat confused presentation:
The context of the question is a thesis on literature and nothingness, =
nothingness set free from a modernistic/nihilistic valuation of it, and =
the thematisation of nothingness in modernistic literature. And the =
problem is whether extra-being is a concept that can be used to =
re-evaluate nothingness: from something dead and inert to something =
living and dynamic:
A paragraph in quick translation:=20
Nothingness is a decategorised and decategorising instance, it is a =
threat against the very forms of reasoning, pushing the work into =
undecidability, opening the work towards what, with Deleuze, one could =
call 'extra-being'. Instead of viewing nothingness as either =
metaphysical or critical of metaphysics, or as absolutely =
non-metaphysical one could consider it one of the 'fantasms': freed from =
the 'dilemma true false, being non-being', dancing and miming as it =
wants, as a 'non-bodily materiality', a metaphysical instance 'freed =
from originary depth and the highest being'. Instead of clarifying the =
signification of nothingness one could try to affirm it.
=20
Citations are from theatrum philosophicum, but marred by my translating =
them from Danish into English. But does any of this make sense? Does =
Deleuze ever use the term nothingness himself? In what sense? Could =
extra-being be in/appropriated in such a way?=20
cheers,
Casper Bruun Jensen
