Dan, really incredible post! Awesome lines to think about.
I think what is problematic about "machines" for me (or what was problematic
at the time I wrote that post) was not necessarily within the body of d&g, but
in its crosspollination with capitalist commodity culture, where "machine" has
a totally different meaning. I think I was concerned about this when I thought
that d&g were going to have some kind of impact upon culture, whereas now I
really think it's an elitist priesthood that will remain largely self-
referential!!! Still, there is Such an Uncritical technophilia in the modern
world that I think it's important to remain critical of "machinic" ideas. I
get what you're saying --- and what d&G are meaning --- and your point about
primate-technology interaction is well-taken ; still, I think it's reaching,
and I think there's a better model. Still, I'm going to chew on your ideas
because they're thought provoking and also happen to be one of the first posts
in ages that interests me.
