Of course I don't know the street so perhaps the urbanistic approach is
just pipe-dream. But why do you start with placing the transit above street
grade? It seems to me that one of the reasons people like to drive is
because of the visual pleasure...the unfolding landscape etc. etc. Perhaps
their taste is rather low by some standards but I think that part of the
impulse for drivers is visual. THERFORE, I believe that one of the
constrainst for any rapid transit system must be to create an interesting
visual experience for its users...especially if it is looking for them to
be repeat customers. Would elevating the transit system allow such an
enhanced experience? What would people look at? What are the impacts of
these syructures on the street and sidewalk below? ...all the usual Jane
Jacobs/ William Whyte questions.

Since I don't know the physical context perhaps my questions are off-point
because there is no street life and only the most unrealistic and bizarre
city lover could even envision one there.
