Found this interesting regarding the design of Salamander, which is an
example of regenerative design in book _The Body Electric_, the below
cave diagrams are of a salamander in plan, whose upper right arm/leg has
been amputated. diagram 1 shows this situation, and diagram 2 shows how
the body compensates for this loss, by regenerative growth of the leg...

Same thing here, except diagram 2 salamander only grows another
tail, and not a leg/arm with fingers/toes. The caption here reads
"The early blastema gets instructions from nearby tissues"
Another strange tidbit of information on this design; apparently
the human body, when in the stage of rapid early childhood growth,
can do something similar...
