Is 720 s.f. for an Israeli family of 4 (or 5) by choice or necessity?
Difficult to answer. Families either *choose* to be innpublic sector
housing or are *forced* to be in it - both for price reasons. Rentals run about
5 - 10% of income. Families *choose* public housing because they'd rather spend
their disposable income on other things than housing. 720 s.f.comes from
"standards" established by the Ministry of Housing, which have risen from
480 s.f. in the 1950s. Are they comfortable? Generally.
I currently live (in the US) in
about twice the s.f. I need. By necessity? Yes - there's nothing smaller
available at this price.
