Subject: A CHALLENGE TO ALL ARCHITECTS
Date: 18 Feb 1995 01:47:45 GMT

How about some real innovation and creative thought? Get into
designing buildings and external environments for Disabled,
Elderly and/or Infirm people. There are many of us who are going
to end up in one or more of those categories. So, if for no other
reason than self interest, come on you people, stand up and be
counted. Persuade your clients to include a full range of
disability measures into their brief.

Architects world wide are moaning about lack of commissions.
Well, this issue opens up a "parallel universe" and enormous
potential for new or refurbished buildings which incorporate
"Smart Technology" and many other design features which so many
architects are unaware of, or are too lazy to research fully.

Let's stop this modern trend of "bigger is better", and let's get
down to quality design for ALL people. The normative and average
parameters of todays' ergonomic design considerations are just
not good enough. Radical re-thinking is necessary, as is a shift
in the generally accepted design philosophies. Those who can't
change are destined for early enforced retirement. Those of us
who bemoan the current status quo should do something about it.
So, "box designers" should leave the field, and those who can
should unite to create new and exciting "products".
Give me an E-Mail on 100440,1636 Mike (Scotland).
