Yes. I'm afraid it may indeed be typical.

There are about 300 lurkers here and 30 talkers and sometimes the
talkers...well maybe they should become lurkers, too.

For days there will be silence...and then out of nowhere will come rolling
waves of vitriol and argument...all to soak away into nothing as they wash
up the beach. One might say that you are lucky to have received two out of
twelve that were even remotely relevant. You should feel doubly blessed if
they were lucid.

But I'm curious, I did't see your initial post. Could you repost it?
