Stephen,
Your discussion of Washington Sq. Park v. a parking space is good in that
it shows the problems of useage. But, as I've asked before, if we
establish a framework or context for useage, can't we proceed from there?
For instance, designer talk is quite different from medical talk; similar
words have different meanings because of a history of useage. I know; my
wife's a nurse and she doesn't understand a damned word I say! :)

More correctly, though: she doesn't understand a single thing I THINK!
