Pianos, appearing in Corbu's plans, are icons for music, or, if you
will, *culture* - just as the hovering aircraft in his exterior perspectives
are icons for technology.
My parents, working class people living in 900 s.f. in Queens, NY,
purchased a baby grand piano when I was 10 years old. Many working class
families in the United States possess and play pianos.
Without knowing the numbers, I might suggest that a similar percentage of
Russian working-class families own pianos. That is, at least, the
conclusion I reached from my short stay in the Soviet Union in 1984.
Corbu's housing prototypes and built projects responded to human aspirations
for space, light, air, greenery and, yes, *culture.*
