It is a fairly simple application of the laws of supply and demand to the
labor market. Architecture is a high status occupation (and rightly so -
which may not be the case with attorneys) and is desired by many.

The supply of individuals to meet this demand is accomodated through school
- there is however no justification for this in the market. We don't need
that many architects - how many architects does it take for a signature
building - a 100 unit subdivision - a small street strip mall? Not many,
and not really for all that long either.

Though I don't know the actual numbers you should be aware of the fact that
many architects end up in other fields - like low income housing, planning,
and permit processing, etc.

What it takes to succeed is difficult to describe - I personally subscribe
to the theory of act first, apologize later (if needed), but that may not
apply to structural questions, nor if there is an attorney around.

Good luck.

You will find that your work/school experience is valued by many, though
perhaps resented by your professors.
