George Maciunas, 47, died in Boston on May 9, 1978 - of cancer.
An article in The New York Times of March 15, 1992 "The Irascible Father of
Soho" - using a survey of real property transfers, interviews with Maciunas
family members and with founding owners - identifies 80 Wooster Street as
Maciunas' first cooperative (and the first coop in Soho).
Maciunas took title to 80 Wooster in 1967 as "Fluxhouse Cooperative II" - an
earlier attempt was unsuccessful.
