I don't understand it either. When you realize that the 'reality' around us
is a very high resolution image in "real" time it becomes difficult to
conceive of any desire to imitate it with machinery.
However, this exponentially improving imitation does provide users with a
gradual understanding of the basic mechanisms of the natural one and in that
sense is empowering them in the same way that the world-wide use of
software developed in tens of thousands of very intelligent man-hours is
teaching so many, and especially so many young people, the rudiments of
logic, geometry, etc.
