According to The Boyer Report,

Women, furthermore, remain a small minority within the professiro itself.
In 1972, only one percent of the members of the American Institute of
Architects were women. As of June, 1995, roughly 10 percent were women:
5,622 out of 53,706.

The rate of progress has been even more discouraging for ethnic and racial
minority groups, and if anything, minority practitioners told us tha the
outlook today may be bleaker than ever. . .companies simply don't take
blacks serioulsy as potential lead designers. . .The AIA has not spoken up
as it should. . .most architecture of the world is hostile to our (black)
students. . .
