i had heard that for a while, the former home to the Los Angeles Lakers, The
Great Western Forum, was the largest church. it had been converted after the
Lakers moved to the Staples Center.
As far as large hollow buildings, do domes count? Silver Dome or RCA Dome
for example.

Stephen,
You may be right about St. Peter's being the largest hollow
building, but I thought that record belonged to Santa Sophia
in Istanbul. Perhaps the spatial definition varies such that
both could be the greatest hollow something.
The recent giant church built in Africa is claimed to be the
largest religious structure, but even if true that may not mean
its interior space is the largest.
