Firstly I must apologise for a grumpy indulgence with my post "heroes". But,
I think it follows loosely a very rough thread to do with the absence of
thinking about such matters as political and military conflicts in the
post-technological, post-Holocaustic, post-post..., worlds, matters which
matter and matters that are potentially Heideggerian food for thought. I
wish to begin to develop such a line or lines of care-ful thought (in spite
of my and others' occasional tendencies towards taking simplistic
footballish-team stands on such; or the tired old oppressed/oppressor,
liberation/occupation, etc takes.) If Heideggerian philosophy/thinking is
anything it is the posing of difficult questions in the face of easy stock
reactions, archaeological digs on the rockfaces of the quotidian and
taken-for-granted byways of human existence... I do not think I was
"discussing Israeli politics" or "any politics" for that matter, but: the
polis is a subject for thinking is it not? And polemos? The continuing
conflicts between radical Islam and the West (e.g., as it surfaces in the
Arab/Palestinian-Israeli conflict and the Al-Quaeda-America conflict), not
to mention the continuing conflict between capitalism and anti-capitalism
(e.g., as it surfaces in the anti-globalisation movements), provide great
arenas for thinking polis and polemos, not to mention the nature of
being(human).

I do not think it is apropos to link Heidegger in the way Chris mentions
above to any current situation, nevermind the Israeli-Palestine one. What
might well be appropriate would be to attempt to read the situation in
Heideggerian terms, to sing a Heideggerian song about the current or the
currency of the current or the currencing of the current... get in the swim.

How on earth do you manage such a distancing? The events must have
eventuated in some kind of nearness in order that you begin to try
distancing... and what are the events apart from some ("theoretical")
interpretation ("linking") of them?
