Value Philosophy
Dear Tudor
"Value Philosophy" is a very woolly term - there are literally thousands of=20
variants and it is a bit of an "in word" at the moment. You need to define=20
exactly what kind of "value philosophy" you reject [or support] =20
As a taster regarding two of the many types of "value philosophy" here are=20
two which are concerned with the values attached to the environment/industry=
=20
etc.
The Anti-Environmentalist Value Philosophers.
Some anti-environmentalist "Value Philosophers" are not interested in the=20
utility of a particular species, or free-flowing river, or ecosystem to=20
mankind. For that kind of "Value Philosopher=E2=80=9D those things have intr=
insic=20
value.
They accuse the motives of the environmental value philosophers as holding a=
n=20
"intrinsic value" philosophy, which means that man must value nature -- not=20
for any benefit to man, but because nature is somehow a value in and of=20
itself. Hence, nature must be kept pristine despite any harm caused to=20
humans.=20
They claim that the environmentalist value philosophers want to halt many=20
activities beneficial to us, such as farming, forestry, cancer treatment, in=
=20
order to safeguard fish, birds, trees, and rats. Throughout history. In the=20
past people were told that they must sacrifice their lives to God, the king,=
=20
the proletariat, the nation, or in Heidegger's case - the Fuhrer -- all with=
=20
deadly consequences.=20
This view says that certain environmentalists have expressed their=20
preference. "Until such time as Homo sapiens should decide to rejoin nature,=
=E2=80=9D=20
and that a certain "nature-Nazi" called biologist Graber, has written: "some=
=20
of us can only hope for the right virus to come along." City University of=20
New York philosophy Professor Paul Taylor adds: "[T] he ending of the human=20
epoch on Earth would most likely be greeted with a hearty 'Good Riddance.'"=20
While extreme, these anti-human sentiments are logically consistent with=20
environmentalism's "intrinsic value" philosophy: Since man survives only by=20
conquering nature, man is an inherent threat to the "intrinsic value" of=20
nature and must therefore be eliminated.=20
That is one kind of "Value Philosophy."
The Environmental Value Philosophers.
The other kind is that espoused by the environmental value philosophers=20
themselves who say that we should stop handing power to the multi-nationals=20
who sacrifice nature in the pursuit of profit and foul the nest of the peopl=
e=20
who work in their global industries. For them, anti-environmentalism makes=20
nature AND mans the endangered species. The only antidote to these=20
anti-human/anti-nature industries is to reject their anti-human commercial=20
philosophy and curtail their activities further.
Is this the sort of value philosophy you are referring to, or is it the=20
general Christian support for free enterprise?
Would you prefer a theocracy rather than a democracy?
Jud Evans.
Joke of the Week.
Hahahah! If you TRULY believe that Heidegger was only in the Nazi Party to=20
change it from within, then you are more naive than I thought you were.=20
Hahahah! By the way would you like to buy London Bridge or Le Tour Eiffel -=
=20
I can easily arrange it for you.=20
