The abbreviation may be wrong. I am referring to the American National Endowment for
the Humanities, which apparently financed many translations. You're right about
Indiana U.P. publishing most of the Heidegger translations. Sallis is general
editor, and associated with Krell. Sallis does not speak German.

Heraclitus says:
_physis kryptesthai philei_ (Frag. 123) (Physis loves to encrypt.)
Heidegger translates at one point (there are others): "das Aufgehen dem
Sichverbergen schenkt's die Gunst" (Heraklit GA55:139)
"Emergence grants favour to self-encryption." He writes:
"The saying _physis kryptesthai philei_ -- 'Emergence grants favour to
self-encryption.' -- slowly uncovers its sense which we come closer to when we hear
the meaning 'sheltering and preserving' (Bergen und Verwahren) from its middle word
_kryptesthai_. By emergence [in a sense related to "To come forth into view; to pass
out, issue" OED] granting favour to self-encryption, it does not cease to wesan
(essence) as that which it is, i.e. as emergence, but rather in granting such
favour, _physis_ has its continual beginning in accordance with which emergence has
already appeared before all else that appears, i.e. before any specific beings."

"_Physis_ is the play of emergence in self-encryption which shelters by clearing
("freigibt" = "releasing" lit. "giving free") the emergent open, the free clearing
(das Freie)." (Heraklit GA55:139)
