One Stage Architectural Design Competition

competition on behalf of Tipperary Town Council, Dan Breen House,

The competition is a One Stage Design Contest for Architectural / Design
Services for the design of 3, 4 & 5 Bedroom Houses. Land the subject of
the competition to consist of 30.7 acres.
The purpose of the project is to raise awareness amongst the relevant
sectors of society of the significant potential Tipperary Town offers to
middle income families in terms of a quality environment and the
availability of suitable sites to accommodate this "unmet" need.
The competition is open to architects holding a qualification listed in
the E.C. Architects Directive 85/384/EEC or equivalent.
In the case of architects eligibility is defined as: Equivalent means a
person holding a qualification equivalent to a qualification for the
purposes of the European Union Directive 85/384/EEC (Architects
Directive) to include persons whose qualifications were successfully
assessed by the Panel established by the Minister for the Environment
and Local Government in 1996 and persons for outside the EU/EEA area.
Persons outside the EU/EEA area should include evidence confirmation of
registration with a national registration body and/or a UIA recognised
professional organisation.
It is the function of the Registrar to decide on eligibility and
equivalence.
An entry may be submitted by an architectural practice. In this case
the name and address should be give and the official entry from signed
by a partner. In this context the practice is defined as: a partnership
properly established for the purpose of an architectural competition or
an association of architects for the purpose of entering the competition.

Prize Fund
A prize fund of €15,000 will be awarded at the discretion of the
assessors. The prize premium paid to the winning entry should be
€10,000 and may be an advance on the fees agreed with the winner if the
Promoter decides to proceed with the winning design. First Prize
€10,000 and Second Prize €5,000.
Tipperary Town Council maintain the option to develop the land in the
way envisaged; in the event that the Town Council decide to proceed to
develop this land in the manner envisaged within the confines of this
competition, the Council will
When advertising for tenders to develop the site are successful in
getting the agreement of the successful tender to proceed with winning
architect.
Tipperary Town Council will undertake to put the site and the successful
design on the market but would retain the right to do so subject to
funding and market conditions and of a successful tender at the time.
Stage One Submission
Competitors are required to submit two A1 size sheets, landscape format
and a written report.
The Sheet must contain the following information:-
Site layout at a scale of 1:1250 which also shows linkage with adjoining
lands Indicative house plans and elevations at a scale of 1:100
Visual images showing the proposed development and context
Layout at 1:250 1:100 plan, section and elevations of houses proposed
Sufficient sketches to illustrate the site layout and site

Withdrawal of registration and Refund of Fee: Friday 7 October 2005
Submission of Competitors questions: Friday 14 October 2005
Circulation of answers to Competitors: Friday 21 October 2005

Remember registration fee is refundable if you decide not to participate
in the competition on or before 7 October 2005, after that date
registration fee cannot be refunded.
