thanks for this, the official nasscom report cited

doesn't put much on this, but yes, FEZx and KPO are in the air and they
are being suggested by many parties, i was sounded out a couple of times
in the last week or so, apperantly, architectural services are seen as a
major KPO opportunity. this of course means, indian architects will move
up the design/construction value chain, and for us, it also means we
will have to capitalize on the opportunity, when presented, and build
secondary and ancilliary services and industial situations out of this.
FEZx, very attractive to the big anglo-american universities - i don't
know how to respond to this. i have approached practically all of the
so-called 'top premier' institutes in the country with this possibility
since 2003. met with shallow opportunism, cynicism etcetra, was preached
on 'human sustainable housing for the poor' type of priorities. the
intrapersonal politics and eccentricities are quite overbearing, of
course, at the schools of architecture deans-and-directors level. was
reminded of ray's _shatranj ke khiladi_, one famous eccentric refuses to
use cellphones (infra-red radiation) and e-mails for reasons
unspecified. i think indian architecture schools are just going to
ignore the whole phenomena. it is too new, too unsetteling, and they
will probably just pass - like those city bankers in london in early
eighties.
on the other hand, some of the newer ones and some very old ones are
equipped to take-on the challange, should their boards of studies and
chairpersons choose to do so. lots can be done and it is all a matter
of mentalities and will. the changes at coa have demonstrated this much,
and the infrastructures to treat the effects of FEZx are being set-up.
how will institutions avail these?
architects were not represented in an institutional manner here:
Animation India conference,
http://www.nasscom.org/eventdetails.asp?id=407 though this industry has
emerged as a strong employer of architecture graduates.

Take into account the industry’s “official’ attrition rate of 46% and
the projected manpower shortage gets even more grave.

To counter falling billing rates, BPOs will need to provide KPO kind of
work like legal, architect design outsourcing which offer rates as high
as $90 per hour.
But still, volumes will come from the low customer care and tech support
kind of processes. One of the biggest drivers of IT industry growth
around the world is the government spending on IT.
