We, the people of India have the power to change our own lives and this is
the chance to do it...
Dear friends of India, On May 2nd 2002 - the Supreme Court of India ruled
that candidates contesting parliamentary or assembly elections must
disclose:
* Their criminal records (convictions,acquittals, charges..), if any,
* Their assets and liabilities (including those of their spouses and
dependents),
* Their educational qualifications.
The ruling is so important that it has the potential to change the landscape
of India for all times to come. This is about us, the people - our
fundamental right to information!
July 8, 2002 - All the political parties unanimously rejected the SC ruling
on various unworthy grounds. Now a draft bill is being
circulated, which if passed as law, will nullify the entire SC ruling. This
is a rare opportunity for the silent majority to make itself
heard. If we don't, we have no one else to blame. You can make yourself
heard.
