Hello Brian Carroll
Great essay posted on nettime about open source architecture -- I
found the reference on themaze.org's blog about opensource
architecture.
It's something that has intrigued me for some time. I thought it
might be good to introduce myself since it seems there is burgeoning
interest in these ideas.
You might be interested in some of the things I've written in the
area, for example Death of the Architect (1993)
(
http://www.octodog.com/usman/doa.html) -- old stuff, but I still
believe in some of the things I said -- and Some Thoughts (2002)
(
http://www.octodog.com/usman/somethoughts.html) on spatial OS and
ubiquitous computing, ideas which I presented last year at Doors.
There is also a piece from 1995 in which I discuss the idea of
spatial "operating system" and psychogeography in architecture,
perhaps the end is worth a skim (Transactions and Architecture)...
Anyway, very glad to come across the architexturez.com website, so
I'll start wading in...
Kind regards,
Usman
