People.
This country does not have the right Architecture Magazine yet. There do
exist two of these, but they are of pretty much the same sort. I do not
intend to downgrade either at this point of time, but I think we can do a
lot better. Better writing, student work, some larger sense in project
features, regulated subject-specific investigation [A.D. Anybody?]? the
wishlist can go on indefinitely, but I don?t suppose that is the point.
After a few months of receiving regular email from architexturez, I don?t
see a shortage of competent writing? Neither a dearth of ideas?and one can
sense plenty need for new enterprise in this realm.
Moreover, we might attempt, at some point of time, to connect to the larger
populace of non-architects. There are a lot more people affected by
architecture than we might care to admit. Furthermore, with 100-odd
architecture schools in the country, there are about 2,000 architects added
to the existing body of 30,000 professionals ? about a third of the existing
community, in architecture schools, waiting to get out. These figures are a
few years out of date, but if we start talking production-mechanics and
number-games, we would not be wanting of readers/users/targets.
Intuitively, I can see a lot of possibility here, but certain things need
ironing out before one can seriously venture anywhere:
1. An articulated mission statement ? delineating content, objectives,
activity, et al.
2. A business plan ? finances, target groups,
3. An operation Plan ? personnel, infrastructure, time-bound action plans?
I also suppose that there are a lot of people out there, older and wiser
than me, who might have had similar bright ideas before. Any feedback,
suggestion and advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks, and
Cheers!
