So whine in Duplicate. Or upgrade to ranting!
Point to note is, only New Kerala newspaper carried this story. Other
didn't mention it even as the presidents calender! This is kind of
similar to other Architecture stories in Indian media (the Building
Bye-Laws story, 89% Indian Express, for example)
Was talking to guys from OZ the other day, responsible for accrediting
Indian colleges (to see who can be admitted over there). Some director
and senior academic functionary types came for lunch, left and somebody
says "your education systems are not-so-good, partly because the
officials seem to want to occupy their posts for far too long; and this
seems to blunt them somehow. the two guys who were just here -- they
can't seem to take bold decisions. i have seen this before (in India) --
the other problem this creates is, you don't have a layer of experienced
guys who have held a certain post and then moved on (or back) -- people
who can orient your institutions".
I think this reflects in our productions, things are just not
interesting enough. Some star architect sent computer images of his
"new" projects, three boring, staid competitions full of design trickery
and ideas the world saw a decade ago. And I was just thinking! Where are
the guys who should be lighting these guy's tails? How come our
academies don't always produce ambitions!
Gita, how about a Slumming India Part 2? Featuring Squatters-in-office!
Hawkers of academic virtue? Rather pathetic to see old guys lining up
for young guys' opportunities. I think I have commented on this list
about 40-45 year old teachers occupying posts designed for
under-thirties; directors of self-appointed famous institutions doing
foreign jaunts paid for by student symposium (and we know what that
means)...
