1st Istanbul Architecture Festival
İstanbul Architecture Festival is organized by Arkitera Architecture
Center to show that architecture in İstanbul, which occupies an
important place in the world with its cultural activities, is not only
represented by the monuments of the past but is regarded as a living
process.
It is aimed for the festival, which is going to take place for the first
time in 2004 during the first week of October, to accomplish its purpose
by using the internal dynamics of architecture.
The festival will stress the distinct position of architecture both in
its relationship with the characteristics of our physical surroundings
and in architecture as a cultural act. In 2004 İstanbul Architecture
Festival will take place between 4th and 9th of October with Aykut
Köksal's curatorship. The week, starting on the United Nations' World
Habitat Day will end with an Architecture Party on the 9th of October.
İstanbul will live with architecture for a week with architecture
meetings, panels, film screenings, exhibitions, excursions and other
activities.
Another significant aspect of theFestival is its participation to the
1st European Architecture Festival which is organized by issue that
makes the festival, which is one of the largest activities of GAUDI
Network (Governance, Architecture and Urbanism as Democratic
Interaction), which is supported by the European Union's Culture 2000
program and of which Arkitera Architecture Center has been a member
since March 2004. İstanbul Architecture Festival will be part of the
1st European Architecture Festival that will be celebrated and followed
throughout Europe and will be carried to the international architecture
spotlight. The themes and goals of the 2005 İstanbul Architecture
Festival will be announced during the international closing ceremonies
of the European Architecture Festival and a call will be made for
participation at the international level.
Arkitera Architecture Center will also give a presentation introducing
the synergy in Turkey at the Venice meeting organized by ICAM
(International Confederation of Architectural Museums), which Arkitera
Architecture Center has recently joined. In the meeting that will be
held in September, Arkitera Architecture Center will present its
activities and goals to the international architecture community and
also will carry İstanbul Architecture Festival to the international
agenda. This interaction will play an influential role in the festival
to host participants from abroad, as well.
A modern metropolis on one hand, one of the most important historical
settlements of the world on the other, you also should support a unique
city like İstanbul turning its face to the future with the Architecture
Festival.
