Enigmatic 'The Goat' oddly cathartic

Sylvia is a scapegoat.
For, surely, Edward Albee's Tony Award-winning play "The Goat or Who is
Sylvia?" is not about farm animals. But after seeing Actors' Theatre's
powerful presentation Thursday night, I'm not sure I can tell you
exactly what it is about. And perhaps it rouses different demons within
each viewer.
Albee has crafted a tragedy in the Greek tradition, wherein the hero's
choices and weaknesses cause his destruction. And the ultimate reward
for the audience is catharsis -- Greek for "Thank God, my life's not
that bad."
When the play opens, Martin is at the top of his game. He's just
received the highest recognition an architect can get, he's embarking
upon a major project, and he's turning 50. He and his loving wife,
Stevie, are a modern, liberal couple who have accepted their teenage
son's homosexuality.
