FILE ‘05 – ELECTRONIC LANGUAGE INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL & SYMPOSIUM
http://www.file.org.br

SAO PAULO, BRAZIL
nov 1 to nov 20, 2005

Pat Badani
New Media project “Where are you from_Stories” (FILE Festival) and associated research paper “Where are you from?_The Networked Sphere” (FILE Symposium)

FILE Festival and Symposium motivates and discloses works and research related to media arts, digital culture and new media.

"Where are you from?" explores the Utopian imagination in contemporary nomadism and global migratory processes. Notions of belonging are revealed in 3-language video-clips (English/French/Spanish) with testimonies from citizens-at-large collected since 2002 in several world cities. Selected video-clips culminate in database art, an online archive on contemporary notions of a “better-life”.

The work is inscribed at the crossroads between ethnographic and documentary practices as well as New Media forms that bring to play the technologies of our times in order to distribute video content on the Internet.

The “Where are you from?” project has been supported by a generous, one-year Media Arts Research Grant, from the Canada Council for the Arts (2002)
