| for dissemination, interesting project - i think
| the most remarkable aspect was, the construction cost
| is about as much as a standard infrastructure project.

Last week the 4th of November the Hessing Cockpit was opened officially·
The prestigious car showroom and garage of the well-known Hessing
company, displaying Rolls Royces, Bentleys, Lamborghinis, Maseratis and
Lotusses, hosted over 1000 invited people at various glamourous opening
events· The Cockpit spans in its length a full 120m, and in its maximum
width more than 25m, that is one of the reasons being there feels like
walking around in an airport terminal· The other reason are the bold and
powerful curved spaces as defined by ONL's Non Standard Architecture
design and by the subsequent File to Factory mass-customization
production procedure· The length of the Cockpit building is stretched
along the A2 highway, it is designed from the point of view of the
driver passing by with a speed of 120 km/h· Some people have observed
that cars are really slowing down there [and eventually causing traffic
jams] after the opening trying to spot the expensive cars and enjoy the
generous architectural scheme· Stretching the Cockpit in the 1.6km long
Acoustic Barrier is a major urban invention: the Acoustic Barrier is
two-sided, very close to the highway because it is a fully integrated
part of the soundbarrier, and has a truly emancipatory effect on
architecture along the dutch highways in general· The Acoustic Barrier
is not a fence with an ugly backside like nearly all the other
soundbarriers, but a delicate long stretched snake-like building with
two equally important fronts, halfway its trajectory pumped up to host
the 6400m2 showroom and garage of the Hessing Cockpit·

http://cumincad.scix.net, i think the recent
| eCAADe and ACADIA both have some peer-reviewed research abstracts
| on this project so i don't think this is another multimedia
| architecture type of project.
