Niemeyer, Architect of Brasilia, Riles Critics Anew at Age 97
Nov. 22 (Bloomberg) -- Oscar Niemeyer, whose modernist architectural
designs in Brazil's capital city were called a ``utopian horror'' by
Time magazine art critic Robert Hughes, is under fire again.
Forty-five years after Niemeyer's buildings and monuments became the
centerpiece of Brasilia, the capital that was carved out of the red clay
of Brazil's central plains, the government is constructing a domed
museum he designed.
....
``I'm not interested in what people say,'' Niemeyer said in a Nov. 11
interview from Rio. ``I'm not going to waste my time discussing these
things. I won't talk to people who know nothing about architecture.''
