While the MCD is razing buildings for violating Plan regulations on the number of floors or for encroachment of land, in Tokyo the reason is violation of earthquake safety norms in the constructions. Four such buildings have been identified so far and the architect faces prosecution. Cut to Delhi, in Zone Four in terms of earthquake risk. Quake resistance is not a priority.

The response of the two cities to the demolitions is also far from sisterly. While the Sheila Dikshit government is making efforts to stop the demolitions ordered by the court, the Japan Government backs the demolition of four multistoreyed residential buildings in Tokyo, citing public safety.
