Angry architect packs his bags and quits East End
02 March 2006
AN EAST End architect has seen red and decided to move his business to
north London after a furious bust-up with the council over the colour of
his bin-bags.
Chris Roche, who runs 11.04 Architects in Turville Street, Bethnal
Green, said he was so fed up with 'officious, authoritarian and
aggressive' Tower Hamlets council he was uprooting to Islington.
He has had a string of problems with council officials throughout his
four year stay in the borough, but the final straw came when he was
fined for putting out black rubbish bags instead of orange ones.
Under contracts with council binmen, businesses have to put their
garbage into orange sacks and pay £1.50 for each one collected.
Unfortunately, three months ago, his new cleaner made an 'innocent'
mistake and put out black bags, he said.
Eagle-eyed Town Hall officials whizzed over to his office, tore them
open, analysed the contents and took photos of the evidence.
Within days, the 'rubbish police' ruled he'd fallen foul of the
regulations and he's now having to pay two £50 fines.
