Shantytowns -- The New Suburbia? Architect Teddy Cruz Examines Border
Town Influences
APA's 2006 National Planning Conference
--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
American Planning Association:
http://www.planning.org/
WHO: Teddy Cruz, Principal, Estudio Teddy Cruz, San Diego, Calif.
WHAT: Teddy Cruz will deliver the Policy Keynote address at the
American Planning Association's 2006 National Planning
Conference in San Antonio.
Barriers -- from the U.S. boundary wall to gated communities
-- have hardened attitudes toward public space.
Cruz looks to the San Diego-Tijuana border for examples on
maximizing the use of space. His work seeks to build upon the
resourcefulness and creativity of Latin America to develop
neighborhoods that have more fluid intermingling of private
and public, building materials and construction techniques,
and familial and communal space to create more hybrid and
flexible landscapes.
He'll explore the soci-cultural and political implications of
constructing space and offer commentary on the policy
implications of this vision.
WHEN: Monday, April 24, 2006, 8:15 - 9:15 a.m. C.T.
WHERE: Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Ballroom C,
San Antonio, Texas
WHY: Rethinking how America plans and builds its suburbs.
