| we attended the DUAC Tamasha yesterday, wags are
| imagining a future that seems just like the past,
| right outta 1984, perhaps. yes, an imagined future
| delhi, given contradictions, sealed against new
| possibilities, the Joint-Stock-Company of the 35
| odd architects in action again,...
|
| (and we've said plenty about the JSCs on this list)
| so we imagine their (near) future, say by the end of
| the commonwealth games, bereft of institutional
| mechanisms and machinations.
|
| will the New Delhi company look something like
| the new york five?
|
| the bankruptcy of New York Five architects, bereft
| of the obtuse literary-minded students, stretched
| metaphors is self-evident, and perhaps does not bear much
| comment.
|
| here is the best Peter Eisenman could
| imagine for his Holocaust Memorial in Berlin,
| another significant architectural programme
| laid waste:

‘I think people will eat their lunch on the pillars,’ he said. ‘I’m sure
skateboarders will use it. People will dance on top of the pillars. All
kinds of unexpected things are going to happen.’

cont'd....

| we are inclined to think the same buildings
| would have met with shrill applause in the eighties,
| when the whole architecture-rhetoric-production
| industry insulated the New York architects...
