NEW DELHI: When Thomas Renault came to India in January 2006, he had no
inkling he would come back for good. The 27-year-old architect from
France wanted to spend a few weeks working on a private project but was
bowled over — and it was not just the exotic that worked its charm.
"I realised architecturally India was going global. There was much more
scope for growth, especially for a young architect, than in the West. So
I returned to work here."
And Renault is not alone. Many international architects are coming to
India to translate their dreams into reality. And we thought it was only
the IT/ITES sector which was attracting foreigners.
"Architectural opportunity is far greater in India today compared to
many other countries. The developed nations are over built, there's less
scope to be creative and there are fewer projects.
India, on the other hand is on a building spree," reasons Manit Rastogi,
director, Morphogenesis
