This is in responce to the published article about a model vegetable market in ghaziabad.

Learning to know that 660shops in 37acres are designed by 'Civil Engineers' from IIT Delhi, is a little hard to digest. Whomsoever brainchild that might me.

I have done my final year design thesis 5yrs back on redesigning an old vegetable market in visakhapatnam.this markets has been active since the colonial times. though it was on a miniature 1.3acre site (to accommodate 350+ shops!!), having studied the markets & the importance & character of the informal sector, their relationship with the market & the retailers, the design project had given me an immense academic satisfaction. It got published in Dec 2002 IAB.

I believe similar concerns would surface in any market & with the information we have as of now..its premature to doubt if these concerns regarding informal sector are rightfully addressed. a project of this scale (37acres) should have involved various experts including sociologists, economists, architects & planners and we can only hope they did.
