New Architect Rules Today
5:10 PM, 01 Jul 2006

New rules governing the registration and training of architects come into force today.

A new public register of architects has been set up and architects will have to undergo regular training to remain registered.

The Building Issues Minister Clayton Cosgrove says the changes will ensure architects are competent and up to date with industry changes.

And he says there is a better disciplinary process to deal with incompetence and negligence.

Mr Cosgrove says the new Registered Architects Board will be able to impose fines of up to $10,000 and suspend or cancel registration in serious cases.
