Award-winning architect proud of ‘dignified‘ building
By Bianca Capazorio
“DELIBERATELY unglamorous: this is an architectural tour de force”. This
was the opinion of the Royal Institute of Architects when awarding the
Lubetkin Prize to the Red Location Museum recently.
Architect Jo Noero, speaking to The Herald last week on one of his
regular day trips to Port Elizabeth, said this was his favourite way of
describing the building.
Noero, of Cape Town architectural team Noero and Wolff, is clearly
passionate about the museum, which has garnered much international
acclaim of late, picking up three architectural awards in seven months.
Noero is especially proud of winning the Lubetkin Prize last month,
awarded for the first time this year to architecture outside the
European Union.
The prize is named after Berthold Lubetkin, one of the great modern
architects in Britain.
