Rouse Avenue facelift: In 5 yrs, 350 houses, flats demolished

New Delhi, August 7: In 2001, work started on demolishing buildings in
the Rouse Avenue area to create a landscaped park. In the demolition
that took place then, those who had to vacate included then Minister for
Transport Pervez Hashmi, then Principal Secretary to the Delhi Chief
Minister S Regunathan, and National Museum Director-General Dr R D
Choudhury.
Since then, about 350 flats and bungalows have been pulled down at Rouse
Avenue, better known as Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg.

The government has a project underway to demolish several bungalows and
flats here and increase the green cover.
The area was in news recently when Industries Minister Mangat Ram was
asked to vacate his house to make way for a family court.
