As in US & UK, availing Building Use Permits before moving in will be
mandatory
Esha Roy
New Delhi, December 10: The misuse of residential buildings as
commercial or vice versa may come to an end soon — and without more
sealing drives. In its new building by-laws, the Municipal Corporation
of Delhi has devised a new method to stop the violation of the
designated use of a property.
The MCD will now issue Building Use Permits as is done in Europe, the
USA and the UK.Currently, no certificate is required to occupy a building.
According to the proposed amendment — the new Section 334 of the Delhi
Municipal Corporation Bill — it will be mandatory to obtain a Building
Use Permit before the owner can occupy the building. The use will be in
accordance with the Master Plan, Zonal Plans and the local area plans
the MCD comes up with.
