The bad news first, my undoubted low point of the year was the
realisation of what kind of architectural legacy we can expect from the
2012 Olympic Games.
Eighteen months ago, the success of London's bid to host the event owed
a good deal to its commitment to regenerate the Lower Lea Valley as a
showcase for world-class architecture. Now, the fear of a contractual
disaster of the kind that saw Wembley Stadium spiral over budget and
miss its completion date by the better part of a year appears to be
uppermost in the minds of those commissioning the buildings
