A PANEL DISCUSSION

BACKGROUND

Earlier Master Plans of Delhi have miserably failed to anticipate and
provide for the requirements of a rapidly growing capital city of a newly
librated country marching to become a Global Power.

The city has already grown out of its infancy to adult hood and cannot any
longer afford the luxury of a shortsighted, rigid and bureaucratic Master
Plan. It required a great deal of flexibility, accommodation of new and
innovative ideas and above all a reflection of emerging socio-economic
realities of a rapidly changing urban metro in a new economic order and
above all the will of the people instead of the diktat of the policy
makers.

The Institute over the last few years has been very active in its efforts
to gather and articulate such views for the MPD 2021 and has been
forwarding the same to the authorities through various channels but to
little avail. It is unfortunate that the draft of the proposed MPD 2021
continues to suffer from the lack of viable solutions for the very basic
problems faced by the citizens, leave alone any futuristic vision.

OBJECTIVE

It is therefore proposed to conduct a panel discussion between Planners,
Architects & Legal experts to evolve and suggests strategies to make Delhi
a livable and vibrant city with a bright future which truly represents a
World Class Global City.
