US architecture students take a walk down Mithi, see infinite possibilities
13 students, 2 professors from University of Pennsylvania to document
their study

Mumbai, February 21: Residents of Hanuman Nagar, Saibaba nagar located
along the river Mithi in Kurla have seen much flux since the floods of
July 2005, from inspections by a battery of officials through the year
to demolition drives all of last summer. Last week, they had some
unusual visitors— 13 students of design and architecture and two
professors from the other end of the world, University of Pennsylvania
in Philadelphia,US.
The group from Upenn, one of the most prestigious American universities,
were here to study everything, from topography to flooding to the
state’s plans for redeveloping the Mithi river

The students will work on the specific themes that they have chosen with
the help of drawings and models in the next four months.
“We will study issues of landscaping in greater detail and document this
in greater detail if required,” said Mathur who worked on and
co-authored a book on the landscape of Bangalore with Da Cunha last year.
“It is a good exchange of ideas, we will go through what they say about
the matter,” said V Tondwalker, director, Mithi River Development
Authority, the agency coordinating the river widening and development work.
