The conservation of mural paintings in Ajanta caves - 14th to 28th February, 2007

Event Info : Following the agreements signed in January 2005 between Italy, represented officially by the Italian Embassy in India and the Ministry of Culture, and the Indian authorities represented by the Ministry of Culture and the Archeological Survey of India (ASI), an operational program was agreed for the realization of conservation project for the cave number 17 at Ajanta and cave number 17 at Ellora. The two ancient sacred places, situated in the region of Maharashtra, form the most important monuments of the ancient Indian painting, both classified as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The exhibition, curated by the Central Institute of Restoration, Rome, illustrates the various stages of the restoring operations conducted on the site by the ICR from October 2005.
