Architects push `vaastu` in apartments
Pradipta Mukherjee / Kolkata April 10, 2007
Vaastu need not take a back seat even in the design on apartment
complexes as adequate knowledge and good aesthetics could still ensure
compliance with 'vaastu' rules.
"Adhering to vaastu norms ensures good health," claims architect
Balkrishna Doshi, who designed projects like Hussain Doshi Gufa in
Ahmedabad to exhibit the works of M F Hussain.
....
At the 19-acre Upohar social housing project designed by Doshi and
Nilkanth for Ambuja Realty, apartments for different income groups would
have open space in between as also earthquake-resistant foundation.
Nilkanth said 'vaastu' indicated entrance from the east so that sunlight
could enter every morning, with kitchen to the north for evacuation of
smoke from the kitchen through the apartment by the south to north
breeze, and toilets outside to safeguard inmates against bathroom odours.
"Good 'vaastu' helps in bringing down electricity costs by reducing use
of fans, ACs and lights, thanks to cross-ventilation and sunlight,"
Nilkanth added.
