2007 Cities Conference on Urban Design
This spring, the Forum For Urban Design is pleased to announce our 2007
Cities Conference on Urban Design, which will include our signature
Members Forum on May 22nd.
The evening will be split between two locations. The roundtable
discussion will take place at 5:30pm at The Museum of Modern Art. To
reserve a spot, please call or email our office. At this time, we can
only guarantee spots for Members but after May 7th, tickets for the
general public will be available. After the panel, we invite all Forum
Members to join us for a reception, dinner and discussion at the Yale
Club. Tickets for dinner are also required, and payment of $150 can be
processed by calling our office or mailing us a check.
Rather than focusing on a single city, this year’s Forum will gather top
city planners of global cities for what we hope will be an annual
discussion on urban design. As we all know, urban design exists on a
scale larger than the single building and smaller than the master plan.
In an era of singular, iconic buildings and large-scale zoning changes,
the urban design challenges faced by cities such as London, Singapore
and New York are, we believe, worthy of a specific, frank conversation.
This year will focus on the public-realm design challenges of the
financial core. One characteristic of global cities is the striking
similarity of their central business districts’ development demands.
Given the pressures of global finance, how do city planners stake a role
for themselves in articulating urban design values? How might architects
be persuaded to consider the urban design context surrounding the iconic
building?
