Plan to uproot 115 trees has triggered the latest row

MUMBAI: Residents of Colaba are demanding re-examination of the controversial Rs7 crore plan to beautify the Gateway of India.

The two-phase layout for the Grade I heritage precinct, drawn up by the Indian National Trust for Arts and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), is facing objections from leading conservationists and urban planners over the numerous changes made to it.

Following the outrage over the plan to uproot 115 trees around the plaza, the question being asked is who allowed such a drastic step to be incorporated.
