Amritsar, July 18: IN what has come as a brutal shock for the heritage
lovers of the city, the historic Baradari in the Company Gardens, which
dates back to Maharaja Ranjit Singh’s time, has been demolished in the
name of conservation. Besides, a couple of century-old trees in the
vicinity have also been felled.
The structure has reportedly been razed by the Archaeological Survey of
India (ASI), which is working on conservation of various heritage sites
in the city. Sources said Baradari was the only existing structure of
this kind erected by Maharaja Ranjit Singh all around the garden in
which his summer palace was situated.
