PANJIM, AUG 3 – The Goa College of Architecture (GCA) is now free to restart its admission process for the academic year 2007-2008.
The Supreme Court on Friday upheld the decision of the Bombay High Court at Goa — allowing GCA to resume its admission process, told Dr A K Rege, Assistant Prof of GCA.

While hearing an appeal by Council of Architecture (CoA), last week – the Apex Court had issued direction to maintain a status quo. Accordingly, admission to first year five year Bachelor of Architecture (B. Arch), which had started pursuant to High Court order, had come to standstill.

It may be recalled CoA had barred GCA from admitting students into first year B.Arch on the grounds that it had failed to meet certain criteria.
The expert committee of the CoA, which had visited GCA, had forwarded the recommendations setting a deadline of June 30 to comply with the same.

But according to GCA, they were directed not to admit students to the first year of B. Arch even before the deadline could end.

The State Government had challenged the order stating it was ex-facie arbitrary and illegal, and in blatant violation of principle of natural justice. Their contention was upheld by the High Court.
