MANGALORE, Sept 1, 2007: With the Karnataka Cabinet deciding to direct
the Mangalore City Corporation to give licences to the multi story
buildings in July last of which the orders have reached Mangalore City
Corporation, the construction industry appears to be picking up positive
trends. The builders have heaved a sigh of relief following the decision.
About 66 buildings at a cost of Rs. 1000 crores were held up and about
10,000 jobs in the construction industry were laid off since 2001 since
the National Building Code had come into existence and there were at
least two appeals to the government by the various organizations to give
credence to the local zoning regulations of the Mangalore Urban
Development Authority.
