Has there been a radical shift in the development approach of malls? Do you think malls, which are located in vicinity, have something different to offer? Why do you go on weekends to a particular mall? If you ask these questions to a regular mall surfer, chances are that you may have to wait for a few seconds to get your response. The answers can be interesting but the word ‘convenience’ may be a common thread connecting them all.

What we are yet to see in our country is ‘product differentiation’ when it comes to malls. The speciality mall culture has made an entry with concepts of Gold Souk, boutique malls, wedding malls, luxury malls, medical malls, but these are still early days. Developers have now started realising that planning and design part of malls is going to be one of the key differentiators defining the footfalls in future.
